Breakout Timing

Breakout Timing diagram 1

Description

O's at the blue line start with a puck to begin the drill. After shooting O player picks up a puck behind the net and cuts up ice. O times a winger breakout route and opens up as support for a breakout pass. After receiving the breakout pass O skates off the wall and passes to X who is supporting through the middle lane. After receiving the pass X attacks the offensive zone from the outside attacking the net through the top of the circle continuing through starting the next flow. O becomes X in the neutral zone as middle lane support. After O makes a breakout pass, they go to the O line as a winger.

Key Points

Shoot on the fly. Players need to find correct timing and work as a team. Hit tape to tape with speed.

Notes

Run from both ends. With good timing this drill should flow well. Can also make it a center breakout and have the center play the puck off the glass for X to pick it up it the NZ. Can also add a forechecker from the O line.
